Gas fire suppression equipment manufacturer

From blueprint design to cylinder inspection, from installation and commissioning to remote operations and maintenance—Xinlin’s 3,500-square-meter smart manufacturing base simplifies fire‑protection engineering.

How does a heptafluoropropane fire extinguisher put out fires?

2026-08-25

When a fire alarm is triggered, heptafluoropropane is discharged from the cylinder’s vent, rapidly displacing oxygen and cooling the fire‑affected area, thereby achieving the purpose of extinguishing the fire.

When a fire alarm is triggered, heptafluoropropane is discharged from the cylinder’s vent, rapidly displacing oxygen and cooling the fire‑affected area, thereby achieving fire suppression. Although heptafluoropropane is relatively stable at room temperature, it still decomposes at elevated temperatures, producing hydrogen fluoride with a pungent odor. Other combustion products include carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Upon release, it leaves no particulate or oily residues and has no ozone‑depleting potential (ODP = 0). Its atmospheric lifetime is 31 to 42 years, meeting environmental protection requirements.

Heptafluoropropane is a clean‑gas fire suppressant that primarily relies on chemical suppression while also providing physical extinguishing effects. It is colorless and odorless, low‑toxicity, non‑conductive, and does not contaminate the protected assets; it causes no damage to property or sensitive equipment. At relatively low extinguishing concentrations, it reliably suppresses Class B, Class C, and electrical fires. With a small storage footprint, a high critical temperature, and a low critical pressure, it can be stored in liquid form at ambient temperatures. Heptafluoropropane exhibits excellent cleanliness—completely vaporizing in the atmosphere without leaving any residue—and superior gas‑phase electrical insulation, making it well suited for total‑flooding applications to extinguish electrical fires, liquid fires, combustible solid fires, and surface fires on solids, as well as gas fires where the gas supply can be shut off prior to extinguishing.

Heptafluoropropane fire suppression systems are available in two configurations: piped‑network and pipeless (cabinet‑type). The piped‑network system is further divided into internal‑pressure and external‑pressure types, with the primary distinction being the maximum delivery distance of the extinguishing agent. In the internal‑pressure system, the delivery distance typically does not exceed 60 meters, whereas the external‑pressure system can deliver the agent up to 220 meters. In a piped‑network heptafluoropropane system, the extinguishing‑agent cylinders are usually housed in a dedicated cylinder room and connected via a piping network. When a fire occurs, the agent is discharged from the cylinder room through the piping network to the protected area requiring suppression, where it is released via nozzles to extinguish the fire.
