Overview of Fire Extinguishing Agents
Heptafluoropropane, HFC‑227EA (also known as FM‑200, with the molecular formula CF₃CHFCF₃), is a colorless, odorless, low‑toxicity, non‑conductive fire suppressant that does not contaminate protected objects and causes no damage to property or sensitive equipment. It has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and is an ideal replacement for halon 1211/1301 fire suppression systems, enjoying widespread use both domestically and internationally.
Principle of fire extinguishing agents
Chemical suppression is the primary mechanism, supplemented by physical extinguishing effects. Under high-temperature conditions, heptafluoropropane decomposes to generate fluorine-containing free radicals, which react with active free radicals in the flame, interrupting the combustion chain and thereby suppressing fire. At the same time, both the chemical‑chain scission and the vaporization processes involved in the decomposition of heptafluoropropane require substantial heat absorption and oxygen consumption, lowering the temperature and achieving a cooling‑based extinguishing effect.
