Gas fire suppression equipment manufacturer
From blueprint design to cylinder inspection, from installation and commissioning to remote operations and maintenance—Xinlin’s 3,500-square-meter smart manufacturing base simplifies fire‑protection engineering.
What are the industrial applications of heptafluoropropane?
2026-08-25
Because heptafluoropropane contains neither chlorine nor bromine and does not deplete the atmospheric ozone layer, it has been adopted as a replacement for the environmentally harmful halons 1301 and 1211 as a fire‑extinguishing agent. Consequently, heptafluoropropane fire extinguishers are widely used in critical areas such as computer rooms.
Heptafluoropropane has an atmospheric lifetime of approximately 31 to 42 years, and upon release it leaves no residue or oily stains; it can also be vented through standard exhaust systems. For these reasons, it is well suited as a fire suppressant for data centers and server storage facilities. Typically, such facilities install a cylinder containing compressed heptafluoropropane on the building’s rooftop.
When a fire alarm is triggered, heptafluoropropane is discharged from the cylinder’s vent, rapidly displacing oxygen and cooling the fire‑affected area, thereby achieving fire suppression. Heptafluoropropane and S‑type aerosol are two of the three major gaseous fire‑extinguishing agents. Although heptafluoropropane is relatively stable at room temperature, it still decomposes at elevated temperatures, producing hydrogen fluoride with a pungent odor. Other combustion products include carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
